Salt & Light: P.2 (8.8.18)

Matthew 5:13-16
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Psalm 119:9
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

John 15:3
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

You can’t say that you are the salt of the earth and not speak with purity.

In Exodus God gives directions to the people on how to build the tabernacle where His presence would dwell. For every component there were specific instructions and numerical dimensions. The only exception was the Bronze Laver. This is the cleansing pool where the priests would wash themselves after a sacrifice was made. It is the only component of the tabernacle that doesn’t include numerical measurements. This is a representation of the fact that there is no limit to what the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from. No matter what you’ve done in the past, it’s not too much for Jesus. His blood washes away all sin.

John 17:20
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

John 17:14-18
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

We are meant to be in the world but not of the world.

Acts 10:9-15
On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:  And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.  And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

What God has cleansed is no longer common.

Once a person is cleansed by the blood of Jesus they are no longer common.

You are not common!!

Proverbs 23:7
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

You are the product of what you think.

If the enemy can convince you that you are common, you will not act as salt or light.

Acts 10:31-35
And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God. Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

Acts 11:1,4,8-9
And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

God wants to do the uncommon for you!

If the enemy can convince you that you are common then you will never receive anything from God that is uncommon.

There is nothing that God has made holy that is not available to us.

1 Samuel 21:1-6
Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee? And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place. Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present. And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel. So the priest gave him hallowed bread : for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord , to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

God sanctifies things for the sanctified (thats us).

God wants to equip you with uncommon ability and anointing so that you can do what He has called you to do and advance His kingdom

Once you have been cleansed by Jesus you are not common.

The enemy is constantly trying to convince us that we are common, so that we will miss everything uncommon that is available to our life.

We are not what we used to be.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
