Discovering The Pearl Of Great Price: Pt 1 (1.30.19)

Matthew 13:1‭-‬3
The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

Jesus spoke in parables which is natural story with a spiritual lesson.

Isaiah 64:4
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

Matthew 13:10‭-‬11‭
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Matthew 13:‬‬24‭, ‬31‭-‬31‭, ‬33‭, ‬44‭-‬45
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

Matthew 13:44 – In this parable, the man found treasure when he wasn’t looking and then sold everything to buy the field. Some people have a testimony of the Lord revealing himself to them even when they were not seeking Him. Finding the treasure turned him into a seeker.

Matthew 13:45 – In this parable, the merchant traveler was seeking treasure and found a pearl of great price and sold all the things that he’s collected from all his travels to buy it. This can be seen as a testimony of those who were seeking the Lord and he revealed himself to them.

How good is a God that will reveal himself when when we weren’t looking?
How do you know the one you won’t invite isn’t someone the Lord wants to turn into a seeker.

Why did they find pearls? Here are some details about pearls and diamonds to consider. A diamond’s value depends on the work man’s hands. It is the work of the earth crafted by man. Alternatively, a pearl is the work of an organism untouched by man. The pearl is crafted by God.

We should have things but things shouldn’t have us. When the inventory of my life takes my full attention, then things have me.

Matthew 6:19‭-‬21‭, ‬25‭, ‬31‭-‬34
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

In both parables, the kingdom of God was more valuable than what the world had to offer.
