Marriage Matters: P.2 (10.7.18)

Matthew 19:1-6
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

We should never speak against someone else’s marriage. God has charged us, “what God has joined together, let no man put asunder [or break up, split apart, separate, drive a wedge in, or divide.] ” Instead, we should be encouraging. We should pray for each other and edify the sanctity of marriage in our conversation.

John 5:46
For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

John 3:12
If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Every relationship is designed to make something easier. Do you have friendships that make living for sin or living for God easier? We need the latter.

Matthew 11:28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

If you are married you are in a yoke together with your spouse. What one does inevitably effects the other.

Marriage on earth is ultimately a representation of Christ’s marriage to His church. That is our example. The man represents the headship/burden of Christ ( who leads in love and sacrifices for his bride) and the wife represents the church. She sanctifies herself to her husband.

All who are born again are in a yoke with Jesus. We don’t pull Him our way. That is futile. Instead, we learn of Him, because we believe what He has said, “my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

What are we making easy for our spouse?

Be sensitive to the pace that your spouse is walking…

Amos 3:3
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

We should be seeking to make following the will of God/honoring God easier for our spouse.

When we are in a yoke with Jesus, He makes things that would have been difficult easy.

You can’t get mad at the lost for what they are/are not able to do…they have not entered a yoke with Jesus yet.

Genesis 2:15-18
And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

God has placed the burden of leadership on the husband. Men, is your wife better off than when you married her? If not, how have you been leading her? God has placed the responsibility of the spiritual, financial, mental, and physical well-being of the wife/family on the husband.

Genesis 3:6-9,21
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

No matter what your marriage has been through, God can cover it. No matter what it looks like right now, its never to late to work towards a better future. God can redeem any situation.

In the covenant of marriage what one of you does affects the other.

Every covenant, especially in marriage, needs some common ground that is bigger than both sides/perspectives. In marriage, the common ground that you both agree on is the Word of God. No matter how either of you feels about a situation , you can both always agree on God’s Word.

2 Corinthians 6:14-16
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

You can’t walk together unless you are equally yoked.

Praying The Word: P.2 (10.3.18)

Luke 18:1
And he spake a parable unto them to this end , that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Any failure is a prayer failure.

Prayer will keep you from quitting.

Luke 11:1
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Matthew 6:5-7
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Make an investment in time for prayer and the Word.

Luke 18:1-8
And he spake a parable unto them to this end , that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?  I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God will always make His Word good.

Proverbs 21:1
The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord , as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Your faith can grow as you hear yourself declare the Word of God in prayer.

It’s not the amount of time you spend praying that is priority; it’s the amount of faith you pray with.

Prayers of faith are prayers that are based on the Word of God.

Pray and stand in faith for the home, neighborhood and city that you live in.

Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Don’t say things in conversation that contradict what you have prayed.

Psalm 89:34
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

God’s Word is His covenant. Receive all of what God saids in His Word.

Psalm 50:15-16
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

You can’t declare a covenant that you don’t have established.

Psalm 103:1-2,20-22
Bless the Lord , O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Bless the Lord , ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the Lord , all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. Bless the Lord , all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord , O my soul.

John 15:7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you

Marriage Matters: P.1 (9.30.18)

Acts 20:25-28
And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men . For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.  Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Leviticus 17:11 says that the life of the flesh is in the blood. Paul was saying that he had preached them the gospel that had the ability to save their souls, so their lives were no longer on his hands. It was up to them to believe on the message of Jesus.

Matthew 6:10
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

You can have as much of the Kingdom of God as you want in your life. Its all in how much of your life you’re willing to surrender to Him.

Where you don’t have dominion your will cannot be done. Where you don’t give God dominion, His will cannot be done.

We can’t pick and choose which parts of God’s counsel we want to receive. We should receive all of the counsel of God. We have to believe what God says about earthly things if we are going to be able to believe what He says about heavenly things.

John 5:46
For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

John 3:12
If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Matthew 19:3-6
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Marriage is a yoke. (Example pictured.)

yoke-and-oxen

When you become married, you are supernaturally joined together as one. If you try to live with a mindset of two , your marriage will fail. You have to go from the “me” mindset, to the “we” mindset. Because whatever one does will absolutely affect the other.

Do not see yourselves as individuals. See the union; because you are one. This means you have to fight for and sacrifice to invest in the “we”, even if it means overlooking the “me”.

The “we” must take priority over the “me”.

Genesis 2:21-25
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

In marriage, two become one. Trying to live separate in any area will be painful because you’re no longer two, but one.

Because of the judgment associated with the fall of man, our spouse has different needs than us.

It’s the man’s responsibility to lead and bear the weight of the home spiritually, financially, etc. Many times, in his mind, as long as he’s working, he’s meeting his wife’s needs. But he must be sympathetic to the fact that her struggle and needs are different from his own. A woman’s burden is for her children. Spouses have different needs, but they must remember that each person’s struggles, though they be different, are real to them.

Because of the yoke, the wife now bears the burden of her husband, and the husband bears the burden of his wife.

Don’t try to meet your spouses needs based on what you need, because your needs are different. The judgment God pronounced in the garden of Eden still stands to this day. Because of that, men and women carry different burdens and needs. Be sensitive to the fact that their needs are different from yours, and make an investment to meet them, because that makes a better “we”. When you meet your spouses needs, you’re actually meeting your own, because you are one.

Malachi 2:14-15
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

Praying The Word: P.1 (9.26.18)

There is a right way to pray according to Scripture.

There are different types of prayers: legal petitions, supplications and prayers of faith.

You can pray with your eyes open or closed, lying down or standing up. The posture of your body isn’t important. The posture of your heart is.

Luke 11:1
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Effective prayers incorporate the Word of God.

Think about a check. It represents what is in your account. And your signature/your name is the authorization that you give to make the transfer. God’s Word is like the account. It’s promises accurately represent what you have available. And when you pray His Word, its like cashing the check.  Praying in the name of Jesus is the name/signature that makes it good and authorizes the spiritual transfer. When you pray the Word of God in the name of Jesus, angels move to bring it to pass.

Go from praying about something/someone to praying for something/someone.

Pray prayers that intimidate the enemy and summon angels.

Matthew 6:5-8
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are : for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do : for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Psalm 119:13
With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

Psalm 119:16
I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Isaiah 34:16
Seek ye out of the book of the Lord , and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

John 6:63
Hebrews 4:12
Isaiah 55:11
John 15:7
1 John 5:14

God’s Word is His will and His will is His Word. He will always make his Word good.

In Acts 4:24 they were praying the scriptures from Psalm 2.

There is not a more powerful position that a born again believer can be in than to declare the Word of God in the authority of the name of Jesus.

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it ? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Psalm 50:15-17
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.

God is glorified when His Word manifests in your life.

Begin to make God’s Word the foundation of your life, because that foundation will never be moved.

Whatever you’re going through, find a scripture that relates and stand on it.  God’s Word will never fail

How To Develop Your Seed Of Faith: P. 4 (9.23.18)

Psalm 126:5-6
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Sowing the right seed isn’t always an easy thing to do.

Ecclesiastes 11:4
He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

There will always be an excuse not to sow the seed you need to sow. If there weren’t then the seed would not be precious.

Genesis 2:5
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

God wont sent rain to water the mud. Once you get seed in the ground, then ask for the rain.

Genesis 26:12
Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.

This is the first use of the words sow and hundredfold in the Bible. Earlier in the chapter, it says that Isaac sowed in “that” land (v.1). There was a famine in the land when he did it. By doing this, Isaac did not “observe the wind”; meaning he didn’t to allow the circumstances to dictate what he did.

Sow because you have faith in seed- no matter what the natural circumstances are.

Ecclesiastes 11:6
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

Don’t give up and walk away from your seed. You have to remain in the mindset of expectation for whatever you’ve planted to come to pass.

As long as a seed is in your hand it abides alone. However, if you plant it, you get a harvest and more of the same seed.

John 12:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

1 Kings 17:8-16
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

Because she treated what she had left like seed, her barrel never ran out.

You never know how the seed you sow will prosper. You might be looking at it one way, but God sees more than one way it can harvest in your life.

1 Kings 17-24
And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again. And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.

Had she not treated that meal like seed, Elijah would have had to go somewhere else to get his provision. Which means he would not have been present to raise the boy when he died. But because the woman sowed the last bit of meal she had, it not only created a harvest of more… but it meant that the prophet of God was present to heal her son.

Don’t ever limit God when it comes to sowing. He gives the optimum return and the best possible result.

He knows what we need, even when we don’t.

When you know that you have planted the right seed, ask God to bring the rain and expect Him to do it.

Salt & Light: P.7 (9.19.18)

2 Corinthians 4:3-4
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

There is no darkness that can comprehend the light.

Psalm 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

When you have the Word of God in every area of your life you will not have any darkness.

The Word of God is the source of light.

There is no darkness that the light of the Word can’t penetrate.

Matthew 4:16-17
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 10:46
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

We have to consider what are seated in, or what we’ve adapted to, that could be changed by the Word.

Mark 10:46-47
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Before our spiritual eyes can open to who Jesus is, our ears have to hear His words.

Mark 10:46-52
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.  And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.  And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Don’t adapt to a life that God hasn’t called you to live.

How To Develop Your Seed of Faith: P.3 (9.16.18)

Psalm 126:1-6
When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Verses 1-4 are a result of vs. 5-6.

Biblically, a “heathen” is an unbeliever.

v.1-3: The great things that God did caused the unbelievers (heathens) to look into the lives of the believers and realize it was the Lord who had done great things for them.

v.5-6: It’s not always going to be easy when you’re sowing. When it’s the hardest for you to sow something, that is “precious seed”.

It’s not up to us to determine what/when someone else’s harvest should be. God has only called us to sow and let Him worry about the harvest.

Don’t mingle your seeds.

Psalm 107:37
And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

Proverbs 11:24-26
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

1 Kings 18 (entire chapter):

v.21- At this point there had been no rain for three and a half years. They were in the middle of a drought brought on by idolatry. Elijah called a challenge with the prophets of Baal. Whoever answered by fire would be proven as God. Baal’s prophets went through the motions to no avail, and with no answer. When it was Elijah’s turn, he sowed what he wanted to reap… water. God responded with fire by licking up the water and then sending the rain.

It would have been a sacrifice for them to sow that water initially. It was the only water they had, and it was precious. But God responded to Elijah’s faith because He knew his motivation was for the people to know who the real God is. Elijah’s decision to sow precious seed caused the heathens to acknowledge God and the one true God.

When God sent the rain, the first time they saw the cloud, it looked as small as a man’s hand… but that is because they were seeing it from a distance. When the rain made it to them, it was a downpour.

Your harvest comes in stages. Don’t despise the day of small beginnings! You may be seeing your breakthrough from a distance. There will come a day when you see it close up.
